- Introduction
The Spreadsheet Programming Interface (SPI) attempts to address the following question: how can specialists in other fields (besides Computer Science) create and manage sensor network applications easily and efficiently? Traditional programming languages remain too difficult to use and pose a large barrier of entry. Other interesting solutions, such as TinyDB, avoid the problem of explicit programming, but may be too restrictive for many application types. We propose to use a spreadsheet interface to interact with and program sensor networks in an iterative manner. Spreadsheets offer flexibility, ease of use, and is a familiar interface to many existing data analysis software.
